Nokia phones return to market in 2017 with Android-based products.

Android-based products now on Nokia Phones.

The recently formed Finnish tech company called HMD Global are hoping and positive about reviving the famous Nokia brand in the global smartphone market. HMD, is formed by Arto Nummela and Florian Seiche

The Finnish tech company are working on releasing Android-based products under the Nokia brand which are set to hit the market in the first half of 2017.

Nokia would be an easy-to-use and reliable brand for customers “tired of the spec wars” that have seen near-identical devices try to outdo each other with slightly better functions.

In the mobile phone market, Nokia remains one of the most recognisable smartphone brands in the despite the withdrawal from consumer devices by its Finnish parent, according to HMD, which is run by former Nokia and Microsoft executives.

Nokia are currently dominating Africa with the basic Nokia phone while Android based phones are close second. The basic Nokia phone have got the advantage of better and long lasting battery life compared to others. Rather than recharging your mobile phone on the Mobile Phone Charging Station.

In 2014, Nokia sold its handset division to Microsoft and has since refashioned itself as an almost purely telecoms equipment maker. However, speculation has been rife that it could return to the handset market given the power of the brand.
HMD Global and Nokia struck a licensing deal in May and as a result they will use its brand to develop new phones. A side deal was struck by Microsoft to sell Foxconn, the Taiwanese company that assembles the iPhone, its feature phone unit for $350m.
HMD said on Thursday that it expected to launch the new Nokia smartphone in the first half of 2017. It has signed a 10-year deal with Nokia to use the brand and will work closely with the patent division of its Finnish partner to work on new smartphone technologies.
Industry specialist said HMD Global has also now acquired the legacy Nokia feature phone business, which still makes a profit from emerging markets such as India and South Africa. Foxconn had purchased the manufacturing processes of the old Nokia business and will continue to make the phones for HMD.
The feature phone business provides a distribution network and cash base to launch the smartphones, according to Mr Nummela, who said HMD plans to develop an “extremely wide” range of products over time but that it would focus initially on smartphones.
Also HMD’s marketing chief Pekka Rantala, who was the former head of Angry Birds developer Rovio, said there was a role for Nokia to return as an easy-to-use and reliable brand for customers “tired of the spec wars” that have seen near-identical devices try to outdo each other with slightly better functions.
Pekka Rantala said “We have a different angle and it’s a human angle. What people are looking for is reliability. This is really a salvation for us to build the business.”
Based on the current market, CCS Insight has predicted a 5 per cent market share by 2019 despite its collapse under Microsoft but that more than 10 per cent share would require a “super strong” performance in China and Europe.
