(BB Fans) RIM giving out BlackBerry 10 handsets in May!!!!

Image
Follow @chargezone RIM isn't far off launching BlackBerry 10, as it'll be handing out prototype models to developers in May, Bloomberg reports. RIM's annual developer conference will be where those lucky technical types get their hands on prototypes running the new platform. About 2,000 of the handsets will be handed out, so developers can get busy making apps using the underlying operating system. RIM is hoping BlackBerry 10 will turn around its fortunes. "It's a huge step forward on our path to eventually launching BB10," Alec Saunders, vice-president developer relations at RIM told Bloomberg. "It's tangible evidence of the company making progress to finally shipping the device." So while we can expect some BlackBerry 10 devices to pop up on the Internet around May, don't expect them to be anywhere near the finished article. "The experience on this device from a consumer's perspective is not in any way in

How secure is your smartphone??

Image
Follow @chargezone As the adoption of smartphones grows rapidly, one of the biggest challenges facing the manufacturers, developers and, ultimately, users is not the threat of losing your phone, but the threat of someone stealing the personal data stored on your mobile phone. Senior Director of Consumerization at Trend Micro, Cesare I spoke to the IBTimes UK about this serious issue and made it clear that no matter what type of phone you own, you are in danger. "Every single platform is exposed to this, no platform is immune. Some are safer than others, but none are immune." Why is the New iPad not fully charged until about 2 hours!!!

Image
Follow @chargezone Reports have surfaced online that the new iPad carries on charging once it says it's fully juiced. So what's going on? Well Ray Soneira from DisplayMate Technologies Corporation has looked into it. His findings say the new iPad isn't fully charged until two hours and 10 minutes after it says it is, ZDNet reports. So if you want to get the full nine or 10 hours out of it (depending on what you're using it for), you'd be advised to leave it charging that little bit extra. According to Soneria, it's tricky for the charge indicator to work out how much more time it needs to be fully juiced up. He notes: "So there is something wrong with the battery charge mathematical model on the iPad. It should not say 100% until it stops recharging and goes from the full recharging rate of about 10 watts to a trickle charging rate of about 1 watt." Two hours after saying it's fully charged, the iPad starts reducing the charg

Is Nokia Back ?? ( ‘magnetic tattoos’ could tell you your phone is ringing)

Image
Follow @chargezone The sketches in Nokia's patent application show how its proposed "haptic feedback" system could be attached to the user's skin.  Nobody likes a loud ringtone on the train, bus etc and if you don't have your phone close by, you might not feel it vibrate. Finnish-based Nokia has a potential solution, with just one catch: You need to get a tattoo. In a recent filing to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Nokia (NOK) described a concept for using magnetic ink embedded in the skin to interact with a specific electromagnetic field put off by mobile phones. The interaction would generate a perceivable stimulus when the ink registers "an alert of an incoming message, a phone call, an alarm." In other words, your tattoo will vibrate with your phone. Karen Lachtanski, a spokeswoman for Nokia, said she couldn't speak to when the technology might be commercially developed. "We file more than 1,000 patents an

Would the iPhone 5 have a 4.6-inch screen???

Image
Follow @chargezone The iPhone 5 could play host to a 4.6-inch retina display, according to new reports. That would make the next iPhone's screen over an inch larger than the current iPhone 4S's 3.5-inch panel. Anonymous industry sources have tipped Korean newspaper Maeil Business Newspaper that Apple's settled on the screen size of its next iPhone, and has started placing orders with suppliers, Reuters reports. But how likely is it that the next iPhone will ramp up the display real estate? Rival manufacturers like HTC and Samsung have upped the size of their smart phone displays to the point where the 4.65-inch Samsung Galaxy Nexus no longer looks ludicruously large, but Apple thus far has stuck at 3.5 inches. The company has to be careful when it comes to increasing screen size, because it won't want to leave its wealth of existing apps looking rubbish on a new screen. Any apps designed for the iPhone 4S' 960x640-pixel 3.5-inch display would loo

Did Compact cameras die in a flash as a result of smartphones ???

Image
Follow @chargezone In an August, 2010 Monday Note called Smartcameras in our future?, I hoped for smartphone-like apps running on a nice compact camera such as Canon's S90 (now replaced by the S100). At the time, in-camera photo processing was limited and wireless connectivity required accessories such as Eye-Fi, a clever but not so easy-to-use SD card with a Wi-Fi radio. On the smartphone side, connectivity (Wi-Fi and 3G) was simple and mostly good (AT&T exceptions hereby stipulated) and, as a bonus, GPS geolocation worked. But when it came to picture quality, smartphones couldn't compete with dedicated compact cameras. The phones' inadequate sensors had trouble with high contrast scenes. Pictures in low light? Forget about it. Since then, sensor technology has made incredible progress. A few years ago, ISO 3,200 was considered extreme; today, the Canon 1 DX and Nikon D4 reach ISO 204,800 sensitivity. Granted, these are big,
