Top Five Best Android Phones

Image
Five Best Android Phones There are dozens—probably hundreds—of Android phones on the market today. Some of them are exclusive to specific carriers, some of them are available around the world, but only a few of them are at the head of their class. This week we wanted to know which Android phones you thought were the best available, not just because they round out a checklist of features or high-end hardware, but because you think they offer a great overall experience. Here's a look at the top five Android phones, based on your nominations. Earlier in the week, we asked you which Android phones you thought were the best. There are plenty of sites willing to tell you which phones are the best based on the chips inside, the camera, the storage, or the version of Android pre-installed, but those things don't always add up to a great user experience. We asked you which phones—past or present—you thought were the best, and over 300 nominations later, we're back to highlight

Why poorly designed mobile sites/apps 'drain smartphone battery'!!

Image
Poorly coded websites are causing smartphone batteries to drain more than necessary, research has suggested. A team at Stanford University compared the energy consumption of leading websites including Wikipedia and the Internet Movie Database. Tests were run using an Android smartphone, with Google Mail declared as the "greenest" mobile site tested. Last month, research showed that free mobile apps were also overly draining battery power. Power drain The findings blamed built-in systems for retrieving and displaying advertisements with the app. However, these more recent tests on mobile websites blamed poor coding choices for the higher-than-neccessary consumption. "Despite the growing popularity of mobile web browsing, the energy consumed by a phone browser while surfing the web is poorly understood," the report said. "We hope this paper demonstrates the importance of building a mobile site optimised for mobile devices. "Sites who do

Man stabbed in the neck at BlackBerry BBM party, Why ????

Image
Follow @chargezone This isn't the kind of story we'd normally cover, but as some members of our team were present, we thought we'd bring you the news that a man has been left in a serious condition after reportedly being stabbed in the neck with a broken bottle at a BlackBerry event in London. An argument broke out as guests were queuing to leave the event, resulting in a man in his 30s being injured. Police say the man is in a "serious" condition, according to the Telegraph. He was taken to an East London hospital, while one man has been arrested and is in custody, the paper reports. The party was held in honour of BBM, the instant messaging service popular with BlackBerry owners. We had been at the event earlier, while others who were present at the time of the incident told me how the police held attendees in the venue afterwards to collect statements. The guests were moved around inside the Southwark venue while police collected names

NOKIA LUMIA 900: Is Microsoft's Final Hope For Windows Phone Mediocre At Best ?? [REVIEW]

Image
Follow @chargezone Every time the Postman stops by my office, it's to deliver another cookie cutter smartphone stamped out of cheap plastic for me to review. The differences between each phone are so subtle, it's nearly impossible to tell them all apart now. So it was refreshing to finally get my hands on the Nokia Lumia 900, the new flagship phone for Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 platform. From a design standpoint, the Lumia 900 is easily the most unique-looking smartphone out there. Its body is made from a single piece of durable polycarbonate plastic (available in blue, black, or glossy white), giving the phone a solid feel that's a welcome departure from all those flimsy Android phones flooding the market nowadays. Unfortunately for Nokia, a pretty face can't solve everything. In short, the Lumia 900 is a jumbo-sized version of the Lumia 800, a Windows Phone Nokia released overseas late last year. The Lumia 900, with its larger 4.3-inch screen,
