iPhone 15 is getting a standard USB-C power connector

You see, Apple has been using its Lightning port in iPhones since 2012, but things are about to shake up. This shift is largely driven by a new European Union (EU) law that's making tech companies switch to USB-C chargers by next year, December.

Folks have been taking to social media platforms, including the one formerly known as Twitter, to share their joy about this potential shift. One person even said, "Now everything in my house can use the same charger!"

USB-C is already widely used for charging Android phones and various Apple gadgets like iPads and MacBooks. The EU's goal with this law is to make USB-C the universal charging standard, which should help reduce electronic waste.

People are loving the idea of simplifying their lives by using one charger for all their devices. One user mentioned, "Finally, all my gadgets can be charged with a single cable." It's a practical move, especially considering that most new smartphones already use USB-C chargers.

Some folks even had a laugh, saying that Android users will no longer feel embarrassed when asking for a charger among iPhone users.

Apple had been resisting this change, arguing that it could lead to a lot of electronic waste and potentially cost consumers a lot of money. They were concerned about the impact on innovation and the economy.

But, as you can tell from the buzz on social media, many Apple users are on board with the switch. Some are a bit sad about leaving their old Lightning cable accessories behind, but they understand the importance of reducing electronic waste.

According to data from the European Commission, people in the EU typically have about three chargers, but two of them are regularly used. Still, a significant number of folks have trouble charging their phones because they can't find a compatible charger.

EU Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton stressed how crucial chargers are, saying, "Chargers power all our most essential electronic devices," and this move will make things easier for everyone.
