Apple's iOS 11 update to renders the iPhone 5 and 5C handset obsolete

Why apps don't work on newer iPhones after Apple's iOS 11 update

Apple's iOS 11 update to renders some iPhones obsolete

On Monday at the Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple took the stage and gave viewers a sneak peek into the iOS 11. However, not every owner of an Apple device will be able to use the new operating system.

The new software will only operate on 64-bit devices, older models, including the iPhone 5 and 5C, will no longer receive updates for features or security fixes.
iOS 11 also removes support for 32-bit apps, which means some of the current applications will stop working once the user performs the upgrade – regardless of smartphone or tablet model.
The software and hardware giant kicked off the conference this week in San Jose, California, which highlighted a range of new Apple products, however, the firm also gave viewers a sneak peek into its upcoming software release.
Cook told the crowd of thousands of developers. 'This is going to be the best and biggest WWDC ever.'
'We have a lot to talk about today, and I do mean a lot'.
Tim Cook revealed, 'We're taking iOS to 11.'
But a recent development has found that the software is not made for older iPhones and tablets because iOS 11 is programmed to only run on 64-bit devices – making anything before the iPhone 5s and iPad Air, released in 2012, obsolete.
But this also includes apps not operating on 64-bits, about tens of thousands, which will force developers to update older apps to be fully compatible.
Also, Apple has been encouraging developers to make the adjustments necessary, but has maintained support for the older 32-bit software until now.
A previous version of the iPhone operating system warned 32-bit apps 'may slow down your iPhone' and a warning was spotted in the iOS 10.3 beta which read: 'This app will not work with future versions of iOS. The developer of this app needs to update it to improve its compatibility.'
Users can check which of their applications may be affected by going to: Settings > General > About > Applications > App Compatibility.
But, for those who will be able to enjoy the new operating system, they should expected new and exciting features.

Apple’s new iOS 11 will include augmented reality features for the first time, allowing developers to superimpose virtual objects onto a live feed from the firm's camera.
The technology uses the phone's sensors to detect things like depth of field, ambient light and motion sensors to make digital items look as natural in a real-world scene.
Also, Siri has also received an upgrade, allowing users to choose from a male or female person, along with a new app that can show users on screen information. And the virtual assistant has been redesigned to translate into different languages.
