Brawls with iPhone 'thief' after tracking him with 'Find My iPhone'

A builder from San Diego got into an 18-minute brawl with the iPhone thief after tracking him using Apple's Find My iPhone software.



The mobile phone and iPhone case went missing at a concert on December 30 2012 and after repeatedly called his own phone but there was never an answer, so he turned to Find My iPhone to track it down.

They spent hours trying to pinpoint the moving GPS signal before matching it to a man/ iPhone thief on a bicycle, who they then followed

In the ensuing confrontation, the thief was attacked with a rock before a passing off-duty police officer held down the alleged thief to the ground, before he was arrested.

"I saw the gentleman on the bike and we followed it and kept tracking it using the app and every time it would stop, the guy on the bike would stop
The fight lasted 18 minutes and was captured on an amateur video who also pepper sprayed the alleged thief.

"It's not the phone that's so much important," he said. "It's that people get away with this kind of stuff all the time with mobile phones being stolen."
"I really don't think people should be going out and getting in fights with people because of their mobile phones but there comes a point when you have to stand up for yourself and say, 'This is my stuff, and I'm not going to let people get away with taking it.'"
